This opera, composed by Benjamin Britten in 1946, is based on the Roman legend of Tarquin and Lucretia. It is set in Rome in 509 BC. Lucretia, wife of Collatinus, is the epitome of chastity. The Prince of Rome, and friend of Collatinus, Tarquinius Sextus, decides to put Lucretia’s reputation to the test and pay her a visit during the night.

Britten’s score incorporates a variety of musical themes that are both beautiful and uplifting. The weaving of voices gives it great dramatic power and richness.  Ronald Duncan’s libretto is moving and thought-provoking.

With a stellar cast, an amazing score and virtuosic musicians, this promises to be a truly memorable musical experience.

The cast includes singers who have studied at prestigious music conservatoires, including The Royal Academy of Music, The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal Northern College of Music and Trinity Laban.
