William John O'Brien is 1.73m tall (about 5'8''), he weighs 67kg (10 stone 8 pounds), has very dark hair and he has unusually prominent dimples.  He used to wear thick glasses, but now wears contact lenses.

  

He is in no way related to Hollywood actor Martin Short

 

He was born in London on the 30th of January, 1976.

He lived in East Finchley up until the age of 15 before moving a couple of miles up the road to Finchley Church End .

He was fortunate enough to be educated at Highgate School from 1985 and 1994.

I say fortunate because it was a fee-paying school and that the teachers were supposed to be good, not all of them were.

Still, they must be doing something right, it is the school where famous people such as film critic Barry Norman, composer John Taverner and England cricketer Phil Tufnell were educated.
The poet T. S. Eliot was once a teacher there.

When he was at school he accumulated a large number of badges for his achievements!

In September 1995 he went to

To take an MPhys degree in Physics with Astrophysics.
He graduated with an upper second class degree.
He enjoyed the course so much that he has written a poem about it.

He went on to do an MRes course in Telecommunications at

Between February 2001 and November 2006 he worked as a design engineer at Cryogenic Ltd

A lot of people think that the subject of Cryogenics involves the freezing of living organisms. While he would have liked a job in that field, this is a common misconception as, in fact, it could involve freezing anything. In this company's case, it's coils of wire, mainly.

In November 2006 he decided to become a student again and started a PhD at

The subject of study is Reactive Atomic Plasma etching.

His hobbies include astronomy, dramatics and operatics, playing tennis, playing snooker, skiing, listening to rock music and getting very drunk (not as often as he used to though).

His favourite colour is green, hence the colour of the walls. This is also the reason why he works at Cryogenic, as the cryostats are usually painted green.

His car is not green, you can't have everything, but is sexy (ish) nonetheless. Although since these photos were taken one or wreckless drivers have driven into it. Here's the front view
