THE REST OF EUROPE

Here are some snaps from other parts of Europe which I have visited lately.

In April 2000 I went on a skiing holiday in Salbach-Hinterglem in Austria. This was my 5th skiing holiday. The previous trips were to the resorts Turracherhoe (Austria), St. Johann im Pongau (Austria), Serre Chevalier (France) and les Arcs (France).
As this was my 5th outfitting, I was beginning to become a competent skier.

I can do a few jumps as well.*
Here's Simon Banks, a friend of mine at UCL, with whom I went on this trip. There were also about 2000 other students there.

Here are some young ladies we met on the trip, from left to right Alex, Philippa , Roo and Alice.
In May 2000 I took a brief trip to Copenhagen. It was to watch the UEFA cup final that year. It was Arsenal and Galatasaray of Istanbul.

The Turkish supporters were very active and noisy, and they had a big shirt.
The match was not fantastic and was wonby Galatasaray in a penalty shootout. Perhaps they deserved it on the strength on their support.

I also took a trip to the Calsberg museum.
In August 2000 I took a trip to Dublin in Ireland. Here's Trinity College, the one and only college in the University of Dublin. It is the home of 'The Book of Kells', a artisitic  and colourful 9th century version of the gospels. It is also where Oscar Wilde studied for two years before being granted a scholarship to study at Oxford.

Here is the belltower in the centre of the college square. The college has a hoodoo, which is that no undergraduate who walks under the arch ever graduates.

Here's james and myself in front a professor of some desciription.

Here are some photos of the Dublin Castle, inside and out.

In July 2001 I went with my parents to Lund in the south of Sweden for a few days. It is only a small town, but has a large University. Here is one of the University's buildings.

The town also has a museum. Here I am outside one of the little house with straw roofs there.

We went there to visit our Swedish friends, the Hägerdal family. You can read about them on the friends page 2.

Here we are dining again, something we like doing. for a starter I ate 'the most memorable sandwich ever', as it said on the menu. And I still remember it.

Although Lund is in Sweden, it is very close to Denmark. Indeed the closest big city is Copenhagen. Here I am next to a work of art (if you consider these odd-looking sculptures to be works of art) outside the Louisiana art museum just north of Copenhagen.
Here is the Palace Elinsore, which is a little further north in Helsinger. It is famous for being the supposed home of Hamlet (the character in the Shakespeare play).
