ITALY

In February 2004 I went to Livignio in the Alps of Northern Italy so have some fun on the pistes. It is a rather secluded  town at an altitude of 1820m. The highest pistes start at ~2800m. I went with my University friends Ed Rowland, Tim Dilks and Neil Chatterjee.

Here is a small part of the town. No ugly 14 storey appartments here
Here are some views from higher up

If you've read the 'Rest of Europe' page you will seen the photo I took of somebody doing a snowboard jump and I pretended that it was me. At that time I couldn't snowboard at all.  This time though, I decided to give it a go.

Of course, I took some lessons. Here is the class.

And here we are again.
If you've been looking closely, you'll have noticed that Neil was in the class, he was also a complete beginner
As expected, I fell over a few times
And so did Neil

But come the third day or so I started to get the hang of it.
On one afternoon we had a go on a ski-doo

Here I am with Neil.

On the last day I did some skiing. The slopes I'd previously boarded in suddenly looked a lot less steep! Consequently, I think I enjoyed that the day the most.

Click here to see a film of me skiing (4.7 Mb).

Tim did a bit  of skiing
And so did Ed.

We ate at some very fine restaurants in Livignio. Tim here is cutting into his piece of 'Chateaubriand'.
As you might expect,. we also did a bit of drinking.

Possibly more than we should have done on occasions...well It is a duty-free town. Still, it wasn't that cheap.
